Mic not picking up sound?

Check connection and mute, input selection, permissions, then your target app.

Waiting for permission or access denied

Look for a microphone request near the address bar or in the browser’s site controls. An unanswered prompt can keep waiting. Cancel the request here if you do not want to continue.

If access was denied, review the site’s microphone permission and your system’s permission for the browser. Allow access if you choose, then retry. On a managed device, an administrator may control access.

No device or no response

Reconnect the microphone and confirm it appears in your system’s sound input settings. Check its physical mute switch and input volume. Choose the intended input on this page after allowing access.

If the selected device is unavailable, select another input or reconnect it. If it cannot be opened, close unnecessary recording apps and try again. Try another browser as a comparison, rather than assuming hardware failure.

The waveform moves, but playback is silent

Make a fresh recording and select Play recording; this ends microphone capture before playback. If Safari on an iPhone is silent here but Voice Memos plays clearly, the website’s recording or playback path may be involved. Check player and tab mute, device volume and the system output. Play a familiar clip through the same output to narrow down the issue.

This test works, but the meeting does not

Choose the same named input in the meeting app. Check that app’s microphone permission, mute and audio connection. End this test and run the meeting’s own input check. Change one item at a time.

Return to the microphone test.
